About the Sunset Delight Cruise
Sunset Delight is made for the part of the day when everything starts slowing down.
The temperature drops, the light softens and the Strymonikos coastline begins to look
very different from the bright midday view.
We depart from Stavros Port aboard Maroula and cruise towards
Iatrou Tsairi, where we normally anchor for a swimming and
snorkelling stop when sea conditions allow.
After the swim, the trip continues into the evening along the coastline towards
Asprovalta and Vrasna. maRea sometimes describes this stretch as
the “Lion’s Riviera” — our own affectionate name for this long
coastal view across the Strymonikos Gulf.
There is no rush to fill every minute with an activity. Sunset Delight is about
swimming, being on the sea, sharing a drink and watching the colours change as
the boat moves through the gulf.
Your Evening on the Strymonikos Gulf
Departure from Stavros
The cruise begins at Stavros Port. Once outside the harbour, Maroula heads into
the Strymonikos Gulf as the strongest heat of the day begins to fade.
Swim near Iatrou Tsairi
Our planned anchoring stop is near Iatrou Tsairi. When weather
and sea conditions are suitable, there is time to swim, snorkel or simply relax
on board.
The exact anchoring position is chosen by the captain according to the conditions
on the day.
Asprovalta & Vrasna from the sea
After the swimming stop, we continue along the gulf towards the coastline of
Asprovalta and Vrasna.
If you already know these places from the beach or promenade, seeing them from
the water gives them a completely different perspective. The coastline feels wider,
the mountains sit differently on the horizon and the evening light gradually replaces
the bright colours of the afternoon.
Sunset from Maroula
As sunset approaches, the captain chooses the most suitable position according to
the sea, weather and light on that particular evening.
Some evenings are calm and glassy. Others have a little breeze and movement.
Clouds, haze and changing weather mean that no two sunsets look exactly the same —
and that is part of being genuinely at sea rather than watching a staged show.
A Drink as the Sun Goes Down
During the cruise, enjoy a glass of wine or refreshing juice,
together with drinking water.
It is a simple part of the experience: a traditional wooden boat, evening air,
the coastline in front of you and something cold in your hand while the light changes.
