🌧 Weather & cancellation by us

  • Generally, we will not do the activity if the weather makes it certain that you either will not have a good time or there is a potential danger for you and/or our crew. Please trust us. We want you to have a good time! Really! But safety first. You get a full refund or reschedule for another day, pending availability.
  • If we see small rain showers, we can probably avoid them, and with minor changes to the route, we will do the trip as planned.
  • If you decide on your own that the weather doesn’t look good and cancel less than four days before the experience’s start time, while we decide that the weather is ok, the four-day cancellation rule applies, and the amount you paid will not be refunded, and we will also ask you to pay the balance.
  • The planned route may change, usually for weather conditions or guests’ preferences.
  • The activity may be cancelled by our company or the starting time changed, for weather or other operational reasons. In that case, you get a full refund or reschedule for another day, pending availability.
  • The activity may be cancelled by our company if the minimum number of participants is not reached. In that case, you get a full refund or reschedule for another day, pending availability.

💸 Refunds

We will refund you within 3 business days – usually the same day. However, sometimes it may take up to 10 days to show to your account. As you can imagine, banks are out of our control. Please let us know if something like this happens. I always enjoy that conversation with the bank’s auto-response system.

🤰 Pregnant

We need to know in advance if someone is pregnant. The skipper may refuse to board a woman who is pregnant if we are not informed well in advance. Preferably, please contact us before to discuss the trip you plan to do and decide together whether it is perfectly safe or not. As you can imagine, the weather should play a big part in the decision to participate. We recommend natural anti-nausea pills with ginger that you can find in every pharmacy, taken at least 30 minutes before getting on the boat.

When do we open the sails?

We love sailing. In fact, everyone on our team loves the sea, sailing, and diving – it’s the main reason we do what we do. We’d sail all day if we could! Bonus: using the sails cuts down on fuel and maintenance costs (and with diesel prices in Greece, that’s a big plus).
But – safety and comfort come first. We don’t always raise the sails, and here’s why:

✅ We Open the Sails When Conditions Are Right

  • Steady wind, ideally 8–18 knots
  • Direction that allows us to reach our planned destinations on time
  • When it adds to the experience without making guests feel unsafe

❌ We Don’t Open the Sails If:

  • Wind is erratic — The famous “Meltemi” wind in Sithonia can shift from calm to 25 knots in minutes. Fun for experienced sailors, but not always safe or comfortable for first-time guests.
  • Wind is too light (<8 knots) – Our charter sails are designed for the Aegean Sea, not lake sailing, so they need more wind to perform well. (If you see 8 knots on the instrument but we’re still motoring, remember: much of that is “apparent wind” created by the boat’s movement.)
  • Wind is too strong (>20 knots) – Safety first.
  • Too many first-time sailors on board – Not everyone enjoys the boat heeling over, so we may keep things smooth.
  • Wind is directly against us – Yes, we could tack, but it takes much longer, and we want to keep our schedule and planned swim stops.
  • We’re close to port – No sense raising the sails for just 20 minutes before docking.

👨‍✈️ The Skipper Decides! (refer below to section “Code of Conduct and Captain’s Authority“)
Our skippers love sailing as much as you do. If the sails aren’t up, it’s because conditions or timing aren’t right. But feel free to ask – chances are, your skipper is already watching the wind and hoping for the perfect moment to hoist the sails.

The decisions of the Captain in command of the vessel are final and binding, particularly in matters concerning the safety and comfort of all guests on board. By booking a cruise with Porto Scuba IKE, the Client expressly agrees to comply with the Captain’s authority at all times and to refrain from any behaviour that may undermine his/her command or disrupt the onboard environment.

Porto Scuba IKE will make reasonable efforts to accommodate such requests, though it does not guarantee exclusion from all incidental capture.

🛂 Passport and Information requested by law

We have no need to know your birthday. Really, we don’t. Nor your passport or European Union Identification number (UK Citizens, I am afraid, will have to send us their passport number, you are no longer in the Union, mates). This information is required by the law as well as Coastguard regulations.

  • Please do not make it difficult for us to gather them.
  • NO, it is NOT OK to send us photos of your passports. Fill the form!!! Or we will charge you extra for retrieving the information from document photos.
  • NO, it is NOT OK to send it at the last minute or at 02:00 in the morning the night before. Our people need to sleep; it’s not fun waiting for your data so they can prepare the required documents for the coastguard.
  • Our crew is not on holiday and would like to have everything ready for the next days by 2 days before. The Coast Guard office is not open anytime we like; sometimes they are called for an incident, and no one is there. Having everything ready well in advance makes our operation smooth.
  • When we ask you to fill out a form, please follow the detailed instructions in your email and send us ALL the INFORMATION. All are needed. For EVERYONE onboard, YES for children and infants too!!!
  • Our company reserves the right to delay the start of your trip until all the required information has been gathered, all the documentation we need is printed and taken to the coastguard office for certification, and everything is ready and legal. If the Coastguard office is open at the time we manage to get everything ready… Or we wait until they come back.
  • The return time will remain the same if there is another trip after yours.
  • We also reserve the right to cancel your trip at any time, should we understand that you refuse to comply with local laws or regulations and keep the deposit without any refund.

💰 Price changes and Offers

  • Prices are subject to change at any time without warning. We are in several online systems with similar products. Sometimes prices are different because we may be using a different sailboat or a different dive centre and/or different equipment.
  • Only verified bookings after payment retain the agreed price.
  • All offers expire after a maximum of 6 hours if it is not specifically stated in the offer otherwise.
  • Greek Tax laws are subject to change at any time also, so VAT (now 24%) may change without notice. In this case, the customer will have to pay the difference.
